yet another newby question
« on: March 24, 2006, 08:17:58 PM »
has anyone here experimented with pinwheels instead of traditional propellers

I don't know the cons but I can think of several pros- using a vertical shaft motor with the pinwheel horizontal there would be no need for a tale or any wind tracking mechanism (im sure there is proper terminology for all this, I just don't know it.)

I don't know the speeds, but I have heard that this type of fan reaches a given maximum rpm so as long as the motor/gen was designed around this parameter you might not need any furling mechanism. and (to me the best part) I and frankly anyone can make one out of 45 degree right triangles of sheet metal for a relatively small investment.

well let me know why it won't work/ is far to inefficient ect.
