Very low RPM DC Motor - Surplus Center
« on: July 30, 2004, 06:06:01 PM »
Hey All,

Haven't posted in quite awhile. Still contemplating my Volvo type mill. I have all the stuff to go BUT I found some REALLY low RPM DC motors on Surplus Center's website. Spec's are 194 rpm (not 1940) at 24 V dc, 1/4 Hp (about 200W). I bought a couple thinking they would be good for a low rpm mill using a "torquey" kind of prop for my low wind area. I'm going to throw an old set of Jacob's replacement blades on, with the pitch jacked up to maybe 10 deg. Anyhow, the motor's part# is 10-1519-A or just search "194 rpm". These things are about 40 lbs, about 6 1/2" dia. and I can clamp a pair of vise grips on the shaft and when attached to a 12V battery (through a diode) can make my ammeter jump over 2 amps by hand. I've only seen these on Surpluscenter.com in a late night search, they're not in the catalog. $49

Take care,

bretco
