Now I have run out of questions and will be rerunning many of these polls again and change the numbers around,

 Unless . . .

You suggest some more questions that you would like to see in the Polling Box.

remember only one answer can be selected in Scoop's polling system.

Some numbers become skewed with age.

A 10' windmill was Huge not long ago.

Now people email me about controllers for "just a little 10' machine".

"suggest some more questions"?

The maximum kb per post, in the initial post, someone would like to see?

I do not mind 10M now, though I certainly understand anything over 50K per pic is almost pointless.

And I do remember when 20K was a large, time consuming, pic.

The 150kb per pic limit is great.

I wonder how great 150kb per pic, for 50 pics, is for the users on dial-up.

Tough call on what is correct.  Clarity.  Quantity.  Etc.

I am glad I do not have you guy's jobs.

Even with the pay scale.  :D

Also could add;

What loads do you power with RE? Might be a bit tricky to make it all fit, but would be interesting to see. The obvious 'lights' answer would be a baseline, but I keep seeing things like cable modems, phones, etc. It would be interesting to see what people are targeting for consumption. Highest power load that operates on RE and so forth (ie microwave)? Maybe even something about requirements of '24 hour' loads such as servers and the like.

And judging by 'how are you making power', maybe some polls geared more toward the solar crowd...? Manufacturer preference, etc. And for the hybrids, ratio of how much comes from wind vs solar vs microhydro vs dilithium crystal? X-D

There is absolutely no point in asking questions like this, because almost nobody (me included) is bothered with these things when we are experimenting and discovering.

You may get a few theorists who probably have never even 'stick' welded, pontificate about the virtues of the magna carta etc.

Most of us in the real domestic world who play, experiment, learn, then actually support ourselves live to cope with the rest.

Sorry about that, this almost sounds like a "rant".

After several years one gets tired of the naysayer experts who cannot or never have built a 'home' machine.

What few realize is that DanB tripled all IT and security detail staff salaries last month.

Salary has its root in "salt" but even with the tripling I can't salt a good venison steak.

I nominated you as a fully tenured FAQ writer since none of those who volunteered to do it ever have so be careful who you poke, now.

How about:

What is the main thing preventing you from going forward with your RE projects?

  1. - not enough time
  2. - not enough money
  3. - disapproval from people around you (spouse, friends, kids)
  4. - not enough space to put my mill, panel, tank, etc...
  5. - not enough space to work on it
  6. - not enough wind or sun, etc...
  7. - I'm too lazy
  8. - I am not lazy but this forum is just a way to procrastinate form my job
  9. - fear house would loose value because of aesthetics
  10. - fear not to respect codes

I understand your point, but I beg to differ. Im not sure who you were responding to, but if it was my post, (with the exception of the prop wood type) some of the questions I proposed, are important to actually figuring out how much power your wind system will make.

If its in regard to the post under mine, then Im not sure Solar PV or DHW (although important) will have a main focus here, as this is mainly a wind-focused forum. Yes experimenting is important, and none of us could have got to where we are without it. I was just suggesting some poll questions that would hopefully focus on an area that is most important to wind systems (and commonly overlooked), which is knowing your wind resource.

Woof;

I like the idea of going back through the older pools and then see which ones have changed.

Also the one I like most is "WHAT" do you use the RE for? i.e. making coffee, turning on light when the rest of the city is out of power, Everything in the house etc.

Another possible one is WHAT types of conservation have you done. More insulation, ALL lights to CFL/LEDs etc.

Cheers

If we are able to easily provide the group with the info, how would we do so?

For example is this going to be a poll? Will we ba able to search for answers?

For instance: I was searching for numbers to an airgap problem I had. What would be awesome is if the search results showed the results in a spreadsheet or data base format, with the results people found when they adjusted their air gap.

This might show in a glance what alternators did what for different people.

Using this example, we might see a file with headings like: User, rotor diam, Magnet size, coil windings, Air gap, output at RPM, Blade length, blade style,  etc.

I hope I am not making this more complicated than the original intent

I could go on but the I've fowled the air a bit and need to take a walk.

You seem confused. You did not join up, you were conscripted! Your only other option is to flee to Canukistan. Oh I guess you could pull a shrub and just not show up while daddy shrub runs interference.

You didn't read the Terms Of Service on the forum, did you?  If you had you would have seen the section on drafting users to fulfill  unfilled needs of the forum.

Its not like anyone will actually read the thing yaknow.

Someone always says the biggest problem with DIY is over thinking the plumbing, I'd like to see a FAQ done using speech-to-text software, just throw a list of terms at each "Draftee" giving them 15 seconds per item... Oh, wait - that's over thinking the plumbing also.

Metric or imperial.

I use (yes no)  -metric system

                -imperial (us,british and whatever)

                -other

I do the conversion(yes no) when there are cyphers in the other system(not my usual system)

Everybody should adapt  -metric system

                        -imperial system

                        -what he's used to

----------------------------

Just my idea.

Oh and for the second question it would be interesting to see different rates for the metric and imperial guys, but maybe that's to complicated for the 'poll system'.

TomW, Google gets all offended by hidden text on Web pages, but as it's usually used by SPAMmers to promote enlargement pills, porn and gambling, and combinations thereof, you may fry G's circuits by not doing so.

So, to save the planet from GHG (Google Hissyfit Gases) as it implodes, get rid of the invisible text or put in those links and MAKE MONEY FAST!

How many?  My official answer is none.

Sometimes the most important part of the system installation is forgetting some of the devices it is operating.

Remembering can be bad for word-of-mouth business.
